A crown

by: Caroline Hand //// February 15, 2023

A crown:

simple and golden

hammered and shined

You’ve given me

a crown of old

perfect and fitted

admired and divine

I give it back

too beautiful for me to hold

I turn away

thankful, but determined

there’s no way

a crown like that

should be atop my head

And yet

I catch a glimpse

a reflection of me

and there it is again

A crown:

simple and golden

hammered and shined

admired and divine

sitting atop my head

I laugh

In the distance and yet nearby

I hear my King laughing, too.

He’s thankful and determined

to have me realize

that my soul’s

hammered and shined

admired and divine

beautiful to behold.

So that grown of gold?

It’s nothing compared to the work of art He’s done with my heart.
